Support for International Cooperation Program

Objectives:
  • Assistance in the implementation of the international agreements and contacts with nuclear organizations and research centers;
  • Promotion of SCN participation in the Framework Programs of European Union.
Research perspectives:
  • Collaboration with AECL - CANADA, started in 1999 under the Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the research and development of nuclear energy and technology between Romania and Canada, is foreseeing joint research activities in the fields of:
    • CANDU nuclear fuel;
    • Nuclear safety;
    • Nuclear Power Plant life management.
  • Collaboration with nuclear laboratories of DOE - USA takes place in the framework of the Agreement concluded in 1999 between the two countries with respect to cooperation and exchange of information in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear power. The cooperation areas covered along this cooperation are:
    • Radioactive waste management;
    • Nuclear analysis and radiation protection;
    • Radioisotopes production for medicine in SCN - TRIGA research reactor;
    • Management and marketing.
  • Colaboration with IRSN - France through the PHEBUS Agreement and Software Agreements on the use of nuclear safety computer codes
  • Collaboration with KAERI - South Korea, signed in 2006
  • Cooperation with COMMISSARIAT A L’ENERGIE ATOMIQUE (CEA) – France in the field of nuclear energy research and technology, concluded in April 2008, for joint research activities in:
    • Nuclear Energy;
    • Radioactive Waste;
    • Decommissioning of nuclear facilities.
  • Cooperation with IAEA - Vienna consists in a continuous participation of SCN in:
    • Technical assistance projects (TC);
    • Research contracts (CRP);
    • Regional projects;
    • International Working Group “Fuel Performance and Technology “;
    • Experts missions;
    • Fellowships training;
    • IAEA events organization.
  • . SCN participation in the European Commission Framework Programs aims the integration of the Romanian nuclear research in European Research Area (ERA) through:
    • contributions to FP6 and FP7 Euratom Projects;
    • activities in the "Sustainable Nuclear Energy Technology Platform".
  • Collaboration with KAERI - South Korea, signed in 2006.
Cooperation Activities:
  • Collaboration with AECL - CANADA
    • Power cycling condition for Candu fuel in C9 capsule of TRIGA reactor;
    • Fatigue test for Zircaloy - 4 sheaths;
    • Transfer, implementation and validation of computer codes for nuclear safety analysis and design parameters optimization of the advanced nuclear fuel.
  • Collaboration with Nuclear Laboratories from U.S.A
    • Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL):
      • Water flow and contaminant transport in geological environments;
      • Radionuclide migration experiments in loess, clay, concrete and limestone.
    • Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL):
      • Transfer of computer codes for nuclear safety and biological protection assessments, neutron calculations and nuclear data generation, and accident analyses;
      • Assessment of 99Mo production technology at SCN - TRIGA research reactor.
    • LANL and ORNL:
      • Development of a business plan for SCN - TRIGA research reactor
  • Collaboration with CEA-DEN France
    • Participation in the Nuclear Safety Experiments: fission product release in severe accidental conditions, developed at Cadarache
  • Cooperation with IAEA - Vienna: current Technical Projects and Research Contacts in SCN:
    • ROM 4/024/ - Full conversion of TRIGA 14 MW Core from HEU to LEU Fuel;
    • RO 13149 - Delayed hydride cracking velocity measurements on zirconium alloy fuel cladding;
    • ROM - 13579 - The implementation of the technique of residual stress measurements at the focusing crystal neutron diffractometer installed at the radial channel of the INR Pitesti medium flux TRIGA reactor;
    • RO 13372 - The development of numerical models and computer codes in support of siting and performance assessment studies of geologic repository in crystalline and ingenuous rocks;
    • RO 13728 - Corrosion behavoiur of Zircaloy-4 sheet of advanced CANDU fuel for high burn-up;
    • RO 13364 - Fission molybdenum production technology development for indigenous needs;
    • RO13971 - Systematic Approach for Nuclear Knowledge Transfer and Preservation in Romania;
    • RO 14120 - Risk and Safety Evaluation in the transportation and disposal of naturally occurring materials-uranium mining ore and uranium waste in Romania;
    • RO 14052 - Assessment of source term, radionuclides transport whithin containment/confinment and relaese to the environment for research reactors;
    • RO 15350 - Assessment of the Computational Tools and Methods Used in Safety Analysis at TRIGA SSR 14 MW against Research Reactors Experimental Data;
