Advanced Nuclear Reactors and Fuel Cycles

Objectives:
  • Maintaining the competence in advanced reactors area;
  • Evaluation of different scenarios for building new reactors based on the future demand on energy;
  • Improving the competence for participating in international joint activities in the field of advanced reactors.
Research perspectives:
  • Evaluation of the international general evolution characteristics and of technical tendencies in the nuclear reactors field;
  • Characteristic evaluation of advanced fuel cycles of potential interest in heavy water reactors;
  • Evaluation of world-wide proposed solutions for actinides burning in nuclear reactors;
  • Development of methods and computer codes for the evaluation of characteristics of reactor core with advanced fuel and of different types of advanced Cernavoda type reactors;
  • Physics and thermo-hydraulic development of calculation models for advanced reactors. Physics and thermo-hydraulic evaluation of advanced rectors core characteristics.
Main results of research:
  • Evaluation of SEU 37-rods fuel cycles on PHWR reactors;
  • Evaluation of SEU 43-rods fuel cycles;
  • Evaluation of recent evolution in the field of advanced nuclear reactors.
