Circuits Chemistry

Objectives:
  • Decrease of the radiation level from CNE systems by decontamination and by limitation of radionuclides formation and transport;
  • Understanding of the corrosion/erosion degradation mechanisms in structural components from the primary and secondary circuits;
  • Completion of the monitoring systems of the operation chemical parameters for the environment in the primary and secondary circuits.
Research perspectives:
  • Corrosion of structural materials from the primary circuit in normal and abnormal conditions of Cernavoda NPP reactor operation;
  • Structural materials corrosion of components and equipments in the secondary circuit of Cernavoda NPP reactor;
  • Water chemistry and corrosion products transport in environments from CNE circuits;
  • Decontamination of the systems and equipments from Cernavoda NPP.
Main results of research:
  • Development of some specific methods to control the corrosion of structural materials from, primary and secondary circuit, as a function of material, environment and operation conditions, for identify the fault types produced by corrosion;
  • Elaboration of the evaluation methodology of the structural materials corrosion behavior and corrosion products deposition in the primary circuit of Cernavoda NPP reactor;
  • Development of an informative system for analysis and evaluation of the generalized and localized corrosion for some structural materials (zirconium alloys, carbon and stainless steel, nickel alloys);
  • Methods for chemical cleaning and corrosion prevention (i.e. passivation, corrosion inhibitors) for some carbon steel components;
  • Corrosion analysis of some corroded components, identification of causes which led to failure and possible remedies;
  • Experimental studies on decontamination of the primary circuit and of some components during decommissioning.
