Steam Generator
Objectives:
- Identification of the main corrosive degradation mechanisms which contribute to the failure of the steam generator structural materials;
- Knowledge of the phenomena which appear in steam generator because of the material/environment interaction;
- Corrosion elucidation for product release, transport and deposition mechanisms in primary and secondary circuits of steam generator, dependence by physical-mechanical properties of materials and physical-chemical properties of thermal agent (temperature, thermal flow, pH, electrochemical potential);
- Mitigation of the corrosion of steam generator material by chemical parameters optimization for primary and secondary circuits and/or selection of adequate materials.
Research perspectives:
- Corrosion of the structural materials of the steam generator;
- Water chemistry in the steam generator;
- Hydraulic, thermal and mass transfer processes in the steam generator;
- Operation, maintenance, repairs and replacement of the steam generator.
Main results of research:
- Identify degrading processes, especially corrosive, of structural materials, function of material, environment and test parameters conditions;
- Establish a correlation between operating conditions and degrading mechanisms of the main structural materials in the steam generator primary and secondary circuits and also modeling of the concerned processes;
- Mitigation of structural materials corrosion by improving water chemistry or by applying surface chemical treatments;
- Possibility to assure the expertise in order to identify types of corrosion-induced defects on certain structural components; proposals for mitigation;
- Implementation of laboratory experimental results, of parameters recorded during operation (operation history) as well as of information and parameters from literature, or from similar foreign research centers in databases for the evaluation of the corrosion behaviour of structural materials and of the formation and transport of corrosion products into the steam generator circuits.
