FUEL CHANNEL

Objective:
    Assurance of economic and predictable operation of NPP - Cernavoda Reactor Fuel Channel based on experimental and theoretical investigations and periodic inspections results.
Research perspectives:
  • Corrosion and Hydrogen Iingress, DHC Phenomenon;
  • Deformation Mechanics and Behavior under Irradiation;
  • Techniques and Methods for Non-destructive Evaluation;
  • Fuel Channel Maintenance Technologies;
  • Technologies, Methods, Equipments for Irradiated Pressure Tubes Examination;
  • Structural Integrity Assessment.
Main results of research:
  • Thermo-mechanical and Microstructure Analysis Development on Structural Materials used in the Fuel Channel;
  • DHC Phenomenon Studies;
  • Evaluation of Fracture Mechanics Parameters;
  • Corrosion Investigations;
  • Data Base on Cernavoda NPP structural materials;
  • FEM Analysis on Components containing Sharp or Blunt  Flaws;
  • “Fitness-for-Service” Assessments, according to API 579 or BS 7910 Standards;
  • “Fitness-for-Service” Assessments, in accordance with the Canadian Standard CSA CAN-N285.4-05 “Technical Requirements for In Service Evaluation of Zirconium Alloy Pressure Tubes in CANDU Reactors”.
