Objective:
  • To provide support for nuclear safety analysis of installations concerning their continuous safety upgrading.
Activity:
  • Reactor physics analysis;
  • Thermo-hydraulic analysis;
  • Computational methods and computer code development for reactor physics;
  • Safety nuclear analysis for nuclear power plant;
  • Assessment of safe storage of radioactive waste;
  • Reactor physics tests and measurements.
Experimental installations:
  • Devices for references neutronic spectrum in thermal and energy intermediary area (licenses pending);
  • Graphite cell with neutron sources for small flux measurement;
  • High resolution gamma spectrometric chain.
Important achievements:
  • Measurements and analyses related to the commissioning of TRIGA - SCN  reactor and of the Cernavoda NPP – Unit 1 reactor;
  • Neutron design of experimental irradiation in the TRIGA Reactor of  the Cernavoda NPP nuclear fuel, manufactured in Romania;
  • Reactor physics manual for Cernavoda NPP;
  • Final size determination of adjusting rods for Cernavoda NPP – Unit 2;
  • Physics and thermo-hydraulic studies related to advanced reactors and advanced fuel cycles;
  • Adapting and development of reactor physics computer programs;
  • Methods and absolute measurements of neutron spectra  for various facilities:  TRIGA - SCN Reactor, the neutron source graphite pile for small flux measurements;
  • Methods for correcting flux disturbances induced by neutron detectors;
  • Testing of the start-up instrumentation of the Cernavoda NPP  reactor;
  • Methods for acquisition and processing of reactor physics neutron data;
  • Deterministic accident analyses: safety reports for the zero-power reactor at SCN Pitesti and for the Cernavoda NPP reactor;
  • Probabilistic safety assessments;
  • Safety assessments for the radwaste storage sites located near the surface of the soil;
  • Safety assessments for storage of Cernavoda NPP spent fuel in salt and granite formations;
  • Methodologies for the safety analysis of a new radwaste repository.
