Reliability and Testing Laboratory
Objectives:
- Qualification (type) and production (lot) tests - climatic, mechanical, functional and reliability tests - for nuclear instruments, components and equipment, products manufactured by SCN or by other manufacturers;
- Reliability studies and analyses for foreseeable or experimental determination of the reliability parameters for SCN and CNE Cernavoda nuclear equipment and installations;
- Works for contracts for the customer concerning:
- Checking and testing of radioactive sources and materials;
- Conformity certification for instruments/equipments/dosimetry installations in accordance with the CNCAN regulations in force.
Certifications:
- The Laboratory is notified by the National Commission for Nuclear Activities Control (CNCAN) through the NOTIFICATION no. LI 02/2009;
- The Laboratory is accredited by the National Body of Accreditation - RENAR through the CERTIFICATE no LI 714/2008.
Activities:
- Scientific research contracts regarding: transport and storage of radioactive materials, assessment of the risks and safety impacts, radiological impact on population and environment;
- CEEX Excellency Research contracts;
- Predictive maintenance studies and analyses for nuclear and classic facilities;
- Measurement and certification of metallic waste radioactivity level;
- Conformity and quality certification for nuclear equipments and installation on the: Result of Analysis, Test Report, Conformity Declaration, Quality Certification;
- Saline mist test for parts and components used in the nuclear or industrial area;
- Qualifications tests and technical characteristics assessment for the packages (containers) used in the transport and storage of radioactive materials;
- Tests for sealed radioactive sources used in nuclear facilities or in the industrial process of gammagraphy (ex. 192Ir);
- Testing of dosimetry installations for monitoring environment radioactivity.

Technical characteristics:
–Continuous and discontinuous tests;
–Temperatures range: environmental temperature: ÷ 40 °C;
–Useful volume: 750 dm3.
- Curve tracer
Technical characteristics:
–Polarization voltage: 0 ÷ 1500 V;
–Current generator: : 5 nA ÷ 2 A;
–Voltage generator: 5 mV ÷ 4 V.
- Laboratory testing equipment
Technical characteristics:
- GAMMA SPECTROMETRY CHAIN, ORTEC TYPE, including the followings: HPGE Detector and two operation soft wares: MAESTRO-32 and GAMMAVISION-32
Main Achievements:
- Carrying-out of the qualification and the conformity test for equipment manufactured by SCN Pitesti for CNE Prod and CNE Invest Cernavoda: Failed Fuel Location System for Units 1 and 2, Heat Transfer System Radiation Monitoring for Units 1 and 2, ionization chambers. Unit 2, Start-Up Instrumentation (SUI) testing and evaluation;
- Qualification tests for: type B (U) container, heavy water container, type A container for the transport and storage of radioactive materials, low and medium active;
- Research contract with International Atomic Energy Agency Vienna (IAEA) for the evaluation of hazards and safety for transport and storage of the radioactive materials and of the radiological consequences impacts on population and environment;
- Studies and analysis for reliability parameters determination in nuclear equipment and facilities;
- Research contracts within the National CEEX - no. 7175/2006 Scientific Excellence Program - "Developing Testing Laboratory and Conformity Certification";
- . Within this contract has been build and commissioned a New ROMANIAN TESTING FACILITY FOR TYPE A, B and C PACKAGES TO BE USED FOR TRANSPORT AND STORAGE OF DANGEROUS GOODS- CLASS #7 RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS. This Facility was authorized by The Romanian Nuclear Regulatory Body-CNCAN; the working procedures have been approved and accepted by CNCAN also through NOTIFICATION NO. LI 02/2009. In addition, the working procedures have been accredited by RENAR- National Accreditation Body through the CERTIFICATE NO. LI 714/2008.
