Integrated Network for Structural Integrity Monitoring of Critical Components in Nuclear

The development of Romanian nuclear power by commissioning of Cernavoda NPP - Unit 1 in 1996 and of Unit 2 in the near future, had and will have a distinctive economic and social impact.
In spite of the outstanding results accounted during ten years of Cernavoda Reactor operation, the studies related to the analysis of nuclear materials behavior in special thermal, mechanical and irradiation conditions, as well as those which imply the assessment of structural integrity of materials and components operating in the reactor core and adjacent nuclear facilities, hold a central place in the research activities of national institutes.
The objective of this Project proposal is to attract organizations concerned with the study and assessment of nuclear materials, in an integrated network which, through joint activities (experimental, theoretical and of mathematical modelling), should elaborate a procedure applicable to the structural integrity assessment of the critical components used in nuclear facilities.
The expected results of the project will allow the integration of the network developed at national level in the structures of similar networks operating within the EU, the enhancement of the scientific significance of Romanian R&D organizations as well as the increase of our country’s contribution to the solving of a major issue in the nuclear field.
