General objectives:
- Knowledge of the corrosion degradation phenomena which take place in different industrial and nuclear installations, due to interaction of operation environment with the surface of structural materials;
- Identification of the localized corrosion mechanisms that lead to failure of the structural components from different nuclear and industrial installations;
- Understanding of corrosion mechanisms: products release, transport and deposition, mechanisms dependent on both physical-mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of materials, as well as on physical-chemical properties of the coolant (temperature, thermal flux, oxidation potential, pH, radioactivity);
- Corrosion diminution in structural components and equipments related to nuclear installations, by optimization of operation environment chemistry, use of some chemical additives or corrosion inhibitors, chemical treatments of the surfaces and/or selection of some corrosion-resistant materials.
Measurable objectives:
- Accreditation of “Analysis and Diagnosis Laboratory of Corroded Metallic Components in Nuclear Installations”
- Elaboration of the procedures regarding analysis and evaluation of specific methods of corrosion degradation processes for principal metals and alloys used in nuclear industry, in accordance with national and international standards and norms;
- Extension of expertise and diagnosis the corrosion area of some corroded metallic components in specific operation conditions of the nuclear installations.
Achievement of the project “Analysis and Diagnosis Laboratory of Corroded Metallic Components in Nuclear Installations” is in compliance with the objectives and priorities of the programme regarding:
- increase of quality and performances in testing analysis and control activity
- development of the experimentation and analysis laboratories;
- increase of the number of accredited entities for the evaluation and the certification of conformity, corresponding to EU requirements and acknowledged at international level.
