ANALYSIS AND DIAGNOSIS LABORATORY OF CORRODED METALLIC COMPONENTS
IN NUCLEAR INSTALLATIONS – LADICON

PROJECT PROPOSED IN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND RESEARCH PROGRAMME “RESEARCH OF EXCELLENCE” MODULUS IV 2006-2008

Taking into account that we must pay a distinct attention to various physical and chemical processes, which can limit the predicted lifetime of some structural components and specific nuclear equipments, the corrosion investigation of different metals and alloys is a permanent and very important concern of several national and international research centers.

Based on the corrosion analyses of corroded samples or components taken out of the nuclear installations of Nuclear Power Plant, as well as on certain specific corrosion tests, the present Project undertakes to draw up adequate procedures for control and corrosion analysis. These procedures will allow correct estimation of corrosion and corrosion deposits on metallic surfaces, needed to identify occurrence causes of corrosion and solutions for diminution/prevention of this phenomenon, in the framework of accredited activity in compliance with European directions and standards.

The proposal ranges in the broader area ”Security of infrastructures and utilities”, since this activity contributes to the assurance of safe operation of nuclear installations and to the extension of the safe operation period, thus being avoided important direct and indirect economical damage and also the chemical and radio-chemical contamination, especially of environment and population and even loss of human lives.
