RESULTS, FORESEEN BENEFITS

      The major result is the to license the Surface Analysis Laboratory as a Laboratory for nuclear materials evaluation by Electron Spectroscopy.

      Achievement of the project proposed will also lead to the development of the material assets for the tendering organization, which could extend experimental aria with the final purpose of the accurately nuclear material evaluation and of a better  knowledge of the material/ aggressive working environment degradation processes and mechanisms necessary for the safe operation of nuclear installations and the extension of the safe operation period.

      Also, through the progress of the activity related to the completion of the proposed project, specialists shall be trained to perform the expertise works and technical assistance in the prevention of some corrosive degradation phenomena within a Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), using the powerfull theoretical and experimental methods of Surface Physics . Thus, the safe operation of the nuclear installations during expected lifetime will be achieved or exceeded, leading to the decrease of maintenance expenses for installations and to a rewarding activity.

      At the same time the risks of chemical and radiochemical contamination of the operating personnel, population and environment, some accidents and even loss of human lives shall be prevented.
