Quality Management

The CROWN Laboratory, as part of the institute, is organized and performs its own activities according to the standard SR EN ISO CEI 17025:2005 and following the institute’s quality policy and quality objectives declared in the Quality Manual.
The main objectives of quality policy are:
  1. protection against nuclear radiation and radioactive contamination of professionally exposed personnel, population and environment
  2. execution of the research activities as to meet the explicit and implicit needs of the clients
  3. fulfillment of the requirements and maintaining the beneficiary confidence
  4. enhancement of the personnel’s competence, improvement of the measurement’s quality and gaining new beneficiary
To meet these objectives, the laboratory’s personnel were engaged within a series of actions such:
  1. development and implementation of laboratory specific procedures
  2. laboratory’s organization, assurance of human and material resources required for testing activities and quality management system implementation.
The technical procedures are realized in accordance with the national and international standards as follows:
    1. SR ISO 11932-2000 Activity measurements of solid materials considered for recycling, reuse or disposal as non-radioactive waste
    2.  SR ISO 7503-1 Evaluation of surface contamination. Part 1: Beta emitters (maximum beta energy greater than 0.15 MeV) and alpha emitters
    3. STAS 11771/7-84 Determination of uranium content from rocks, minerals, powders an secondary materials from extractive mine industry
    4. STAS 11771/4-83 Determination of uranium content from mine waters and waters from processing installations
    5. STAS 11771/2-84 Sampling and sample preparation
    6. STAS 12130-82 Water – Determination of natural uranium and natural thorium
    7. STAS 12174-87 Determination of  Sr-90 in milk, dairy products and fish
    8. SR ISO 2919 – 96 Sealed sources of nuclear radiations – classification
    9. SR ISO 9978 – 96 Sealed sources of nuclear radiations – Methods for testing the tightness
    10. ISO 8690 Decontamination for radioactively contaminated surfaces
    11. STAS 12457/86 Determination of particulate activity density
    12. STAS 11582-83 (R-61) Air – Determination of I-131 content
    13. AEA SS115 International Safety Standards for Protection Against Ionizing Radiation and Safety of Radiation Sources
